This young band, although only together for a year, have made their mission known: a desire to push their talents to the limit and share their love for music with others. Their style: Alternative Pop Metal. Their material: Favorite covers and originals. They have tested the waters locally, having played at The Door just outside Canton, Texas.
These five young men range in age from 15 to 16. All attend school in Canton, Texas. They are all members of the band program, including jazz band, under the direction of Rob Toups and credit him with much of the skills and discipline they have acquired.
Tyler Jackson plays DW drums, and lists Mike Portnoy and Neil Pert as his influences. Tyler says he would love to sit in with Rush if given the opportunity. Riley Lawson plays lead guitar, a Schecter. He likes hard core, angry music, but is a very mellow guy. He wishes he could sit in with The Doors back in the day. Riley thanks his dad for introducing him to rock. Will Gilmore plays bass, a Dean. He lists bass player Nathan East as an important influence. Will wants to sit in with Silverstein. Josh Stegall plays rhythm guitar, also a Schecter. He is the lead lyricist, writing whenever he has an epiphany. Colton Quick is the vocalist of the group, singing since he was six. He also enjoys playing guitar. His earliest influence as a child was NSync; he also lists vocalist influences Shai and Boyz To Men.
The guys give thanks for their talents and inspiration to God, and to their mentors, band director Rob Toups, guitarists Bill Burgin and Wesley Pruitt, and drummer Charles Sharp. They also express their sincere appreciation to their parents for providing emotional support, practice space, and lessons. Oh yes, and for helping supply their inventory of instruments, amps and other miscellaneous equipment.
Many thanks go out to Dr. Mac Walling for supplying audio sound equipment for recording, Ken Schofield for audio support, Jennifer Castaneda for photography, and Matt Bailey for web support, Matt Boyd for all his support, teacher Mrs. Flowers for that first practice room. Oh yes, and appreciation goes out to those few haters who unknowingly motivate the band to do their best. And thanks to Coach Yarbrough for helping fuel their musical edginess.
Most especially, thanks to Quick Star Productions for the opportunity to participate in their important anti-suicide program To Write Love On Her Arms and compilation cd 11th Hour Confessions. Forever Lies Fate sincerely appreciates the chance to present their original “Tear It Up”. |
